HISTORICAL NEWS (ENGLISH VERSION)

The common of Bordano belongs to the province of Udine, and is located on the right bank of the Tagliamento river. The altitude of the area ranges between the 220 metres of the plain and the 1505 metres of Mt San Simeone. The village of Bordano has only one hamlet, Interneppo. The territory of the common covers a surface of about 15 square kilometres with a population of 830 people. The village is situated between the plain where the Tagliamento rivers flows and the slopes of Mt San Simeone. Interneppo dominates the splendid Cavazzo or Of The Three Commons lake, the major stretch of water of the region. The first mention of "Bordanum" dates back to a document written in the year 1000, but roads built in the Roman period and strategic outposts probably belonging to a pre-roman age were already present in this area. We have been left several documents concerning the little church built on Mt San Simeone, firstly mentioned in papers of the XIII century and re-built on many occasions (the last of which after the 1976 earthquake). Today, this is one of the churches situated at the highest altitude in the Friuli Alps. The territory of Bordano and Interneppo was dominated by the Church for a long period. In 1506 was ceded to the "Magnificent Community " of Venzone. It shared then the fate of the Gemona area, first under the dominion of Venice, then under the French and Austrian administration and finally the Italian one. During the First World War, Mount Festa that dominates the hamlet of Interneppo became famous: the fortress that existed here was the theatre of heroic battles for the defence of this territory and in its interior the local population hid many Italian soldiers who had escaped from prisoner-of war-camps.
The Second World War brought along a story of misery, death and deportation for the population of Bordano and of many other villages and towns of Friuli and Italy.
In July 1944, Bordano was almost completely destroyed by a nazifascist reprisal and the villagers were forced to leave their homes to make place for the Cossack population who invaded this territory.
Little more than 30 years after, the common, already tried by the immigration plague was destroyed by the two earthquakes of May and September 1976. Entirely rebuilt, the villages of Bordano and Interneppo combine today tradition and modernity preserving, along with the comfort provided for by the most updated infrastructures, the love for their historical and cultural heritage, particularly evident in the attachment to the ancient values and the use of the original dialect.
